Sometimes, the world we know isn't the world that really is. Katherine's world is a world set on the restaurant strip of 39th Street in Kansas City, Mo. It is a world where beings live in mirrors and blue lights offer glimpses of salvation. Katherine's world is a world where God leaves secret messages on men's room walls and a world where Satan lurks in every corner waiting to capture her soul. It is a world where friends are few and becoming fewer as everything she writes about in her fictional short stories starts coming true. For audiences unfamiliar with Hughes, his art combines retro or vintage stylings and atmospheres akin to AMC's Mad Men with a decisively romantic
